The Tornados collected their fifth win of the season
BREVARD, N.C.- A Drew Gallowitch goal and a solid performance from freshman goalkeeper Heath Turner propelled the Tornados into the Brevard College history books while they claimed a 1-0 win against Anderson Tuesday afternoon at Brevard Soccer Field in Brevard, N.C. in South Atlantic Conference action.
The Tornados (5-8, 3-5 SAC) proved victorious for the third consecutive home match for the first time since becoming a Division II affiliate in 2008. Also, it marks the first time that the Tornados have won consecutive home conference matches since 2010 and with the win it matches the most wins in a season since transferring to DII (five) and the most wins as a SAC member (three).
The Trojans (9-4-2, 4-4-2 SAC) dropped their second consecutive 1-0 decision and saw their three-match win streak against BC snapped.
Sophomore Gallowitch provided the game’s lone goal in the 36th minute when he connected on a sliding kick following a pass from Jami Uuttu to best Anderson’s Bo Haug.
The Trojans had two opportunities in the 74th and 76th minute, respectively, but missed both wide left.
Anderson doubled BC in the shot category, 10-5, including 6-2 in the second half. The Trojans’ Haug finished with two saves while Turner turned in a clean slate and four saves. Anderson’s Bernd Muxel paced both teams with four shots while BC’s Rhem Stubbs led the Tornados with two.
