Tornados Win Overall Conference Championship, Prepare for Nationals

BREVARD, N.C.-The Brevard College Tornados cycling team won the Southeast College Cycling Overall Conference Championship over the weekend. The downhill, cross country, and dual-slalom events were all held at Adventure Village in Brevard while Sunday’s short track was held on campus around Ross Hall. 

The Tornados had a solid showing in the home event, placing at least two athletes in the top five of every men's and women's A race.

Erica Zaveta and Sarah Hill lead the way for the ladies by placing 1st and 2nd in both the cross country and short track races. 

On the men’s side, Zach Valdez and Lewis Gaffney took 2nd and 3rd in both the cross country and short track.

The Tornados dominated the men's downhill race as Dan Ennis placed 1st, Mac Banner took 2nd, Asher Blackmore grabbed 4th, and freshman Callum McEwen finished 5th.  

The women also performed well with Hill taking 2nd, Zaveta placing 3rd, and Nicole Miranda finishing 4th.

Dan Ennis was 1st in the dual slalom while Banner finished 4th.  On the women’s side Zaveta placed 2nd with Hill in 4th. 

The Tornados now turn their focus to the Mountain Bike National Championships this weekend in Beech Mountain, North Carolina. The Tornados will leave Thursday in preparation for races Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
