McPhillips Garners All-SAC Honorable Mention

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Brevard College freshman Ryan McPhillips received All-SAC Honorable Mention at the forward position for his accolades during his freshman campaign with the Tornados, the conference office announced Wednesday morning.

The Glasgow, Scotland, native, paced the Tornado squad in goals (six), points (13), shots (26) and shots on goal (16) while starting all but one match. BC finished 5-11 overall (3-8 South Atlantic Conference) while falling just short of the postseason. McPhillips enjoyed a four-match stretch that he tallied at least one goal (Sept. 22-Oct. 9). He picked up an assist on the Tornados first goal of the season against Erskine that resulted in 2-1 double-overtime BC victory Sept. 7.

The freshman notched BC’s lone goal in the following match at Belmont Abbey (Sept. 11) while scoring the Tornados first goal in a 2-1 conference victory against Tusculum (Oct. 9).

McPhillips also notched a goal in BC’s season finale at Coker with a goal in the third minute. Carson Newman’s Ross Frame was named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year while Queens’ Jonathan Onyeaka was tabbed Freshman of the Year and his coach, Oliver Carias, earned Coach of the Year recognition.
