BC is on the road for the third straight game
The Brevard College women’s basketball team returns to the court after a week off when it travels to Anderson to battle the Trojans in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. in the Abney Athletic Center in Anderson, S.C.
Schedule Notes: BC (0-1) seeks its first win of the season after dropping its season-opener to North Georgia, 68-42 Nov. 11. The Tornados have been battletested in the early stages of the 2013-14 campaign while playing three Division I schools in exhibition games. BC traveled to Western Carolina Nov. 2 before playing consecutive games at Furman and Coastal Carolina, respectively. The Tornados begin the season with five of their first seven games on the road.
Dependable Defense: Despite the stiff competition, head coach Shannon Reid’s team has forced at least 18 turnovers in every game this season, including 20 at Furman in an exhibition game Nov. 12.
Second Half Strong: BC has scored more points in the second half than in the first half in three of its four outings. The Tornados dropped 26 points in the second half at Furman and 22 at Western Carolina.
Williams Warm: Sophomore Katie Williams matched a career-high in points with 17 points at Coastal Carolina Nov. 13 while knocking down 5-of-7 from the charity stripe. Williams poured in 14 points at WCU and nearly had a double-digit effort against North Georgia when she finished with nine points.
Trojan Terrific: The Anderson Trojans (4-1) are riding a four-game win streak while its lone loss was at USC-Aiken, 61-59, Nov. 8. However, the Trojans exacted revenge with a 70-60 victory against USC-A Monday. Anderson is wrapping up a three-game home stint before hitting the road for a trio of games. The Trojans are averaging 70.6 points per game while knocking down 42.7% of their field goals.
Triple Threat: Trojans’ Jasmine Franklin (12.8), Sierra Simpson (11.4) and Lesley Woods (11.0) are averaging double figures five games into the season while Katie Davis (9.0) isn’t far behind. Woods paces the squad in 3-point percentage (48.1) while Simpson dishes out six assists per game and is second on the team in rebounds with six per game.
2012-13 Recap: The Trojans swept BC last season. The Tornados dropped a heartbreaker, 57-54, at home Jan. 26 before Anderson thwarted BC, 56-40, Feb. 27. Simpson scored 12 and 13 points, respectively, while Tuccoa Brackett dropped 23 points in the February matchup.
Series History: The Trojans lead the all-time series, 5-1, while claiming victory in the last five games. BC’s lone win came Jan. 29, 2011, 67-63.
