Shaw Shines in Loss to Fayetteville State
BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College men’s basketball team fell 95-64 to Fayetteville State in nonconference action on Saturday afternoon in Felton J. Capel Arena despite a 25-point outburst by BC freshman Trevon Shaw.
Shaw went 9-of-15 from the field, including 7-of-10 from three-point range, and a perfect 3-for-3 from the foul line to lead all scorers. Shaw also grabbed six rebounds for BC.
The Broncos struck first with a three-pointer less than a minute into the game to take a 3-0 advantage. Shaw tied it with a three on BC’s ensuing possession, but Fayetteville State regained the lead on Tyrell Tate three-point play at the 17:31 mark.
From there the Broncos led for the duration of the game and began to pull away late in the second half, closing the half on a 12-2 run. FSU led 49-28 at the break.
Darius Moose chipped in 20 points for the Tornados thanks to 10 made free throws, and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Tornados, however, shot only 31.7 percent from the field (20-of-63) compared to 53.2 percent (33-of-62) for the Broncos. Outside of Shaw and Moose, who combined for 45 points, no other Tornado scored more than five points.
The Tornados resume South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday December 14th when they host the Royals of Queens University in Boshamer Gymnasium.
