BC Wraps Up Homestand Against Queens

BC battles Queens for first time in school history

The Brevard College women’s basketball team returns to action after a 10-day break when it welcomes Queens University of Charlotte for a South Atlantic Conference bout Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Boshamer Gymnasium.

Schedule Notes: The Tornados (2-4, 1-3 SAC) fell to Lenoir-Rhyne Dec. 4 in a 67-48 decision. Three Bears registered double digits while Shelby Wolfe was the lone Tornado to score at least 10 points. BC was held to 34% from the floor while L-R caught fire and shot 62.5% in the second half despite 22 turnovers on the game. BC is wrapping up its longest homestand of the season and will be on the road for its next three contests.

Trending Trio: Sophomore Katie Williams (10.2), freshman Madison Lenox (10.0) and sophomore Wolfe (9.4) lead the squad in scoring while Williams leads the team in free-throws made (24). Each player is averaging more than 20 minutes per contest.

It’s Not Personal: The Tornados lead the conference and sit third nationally by committing only 14.2 fouls per game. BC committed only 10 fouls against L-R. Queens is fourth in the conference with 17.3.

Home Cookin’: All but one Tornado (Chezney McJunkin) reigns from North Carolina. McJunkin comes to BC from Easley, S.C.

Welcome to the SAC: Queens (2-5, 1-3 SAC) is in its inaugural year in the conference and picked up its first win last time out with a two-point victory against Tusculum (77-75) snapping a five-game losing skid. The Royals are amidst playing six of their first nine games on the road. Head coach Susan Yow has used the same starting five for all seven contests.

Dangerous Duo: The Royals duo of Nikia Squire (14.3) and Shonice Pettaway (13.3) sit ninth and 13th in the SAC, respectively, in points per game. Both players are shooting at least 60% from the charity and averaging more than six rebounds per game. Pettaway is third on the team in assists with 10.

Series History: This is the first meeting between the two schools.
