Box Score

CHARLESTON, S.C.- The Brevard College men’s basketball team saw four players register at least 15 points while the team knocked down 10 three-pointers, but it wasn’t enough while Division I foe, The Citadel, downed BC, 79-68 at McAlister Field House Wednesday night in Charleston, S.C.

The Bulldogs (4-8) snapped a four-game losing skid and was nearly perfect from the charity stripe (31-for-33) in the first meeting between the squads. The Tornados (2-7) dropped their third consecutive road game despite 10 lead changes and four ties.

BC jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead after back-to-back three-pointers from Trevon Shaw and Harrison White, but the lead didn’t last while The Citadel responded with a 9-5 run to tie at 11. It was one of the games’ four ties, all coming in the first half.

Following a Darius Moose layup at the 5:37 mark and a Tornado one-point advantage, the Bulldogs finished the half on an 11-4 spurt to take a 35-29 lead into the intermission.

BC shot more 3’s (13) than 2’s (10) in the first half while The Citadel shot 52.2% from the floor.

Both teams exchanged buckets in the early goings of the second half before a three-pointer from The Citadel’s Matt Van Scyoc pushed the Bulldog lead to nine, 43-34.

However, BC responded and cut the deficit to four following a pair of made free-throws from Shaw and a deep three from Dominique Pickett.

Tornados sophomore Miles Leathers caught fire and scored six straight points to make it 52-49 Bulldog advantage with 9:58 remaining.

The Citadel would clamp down and stretch the lead to 11, thanks to a 10-2 run following another Sycoc three-pointer.

The Tornados would make it interesting after a Shaw layup would make it 66-60 with 1:29 remaining. But, effective free-throw shooting would help secure the Bulldog
victory.

Moose, Shaw and Pickett registered 16 point a piece while Leathers had 15. Shaw led the squad with six rebounds while Leather chipped in with three assists.

Marshall Harris III led all scorers with 22 while Sycoc impressed with 21. The Bulldogs’ Brian White finished with a 13-point, 11-rebound night while The Citadel held the advantage on the glass (35-25).

BC returns to action when it travels to South Atlantic Conference newcomer, Coker Jan. 4 for a 4 p.m. tip in Hartsville, S.C.
