Trio Fuels BC's Sweep of TusculumJanuary 8, 2014
BREVARD, N.C.- Darius Moose, Dominique Pickett and Miles Leathers combined for 83 points in Brevard College’s 101-90 South Atlantic Conference win over the Tusculum Pioneers in Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Darius Moose helped Brevard (3-8, 3-4 SAC) complete a sweep of the season series with his fourth double-double of the season, posting a career-high 33 points and tying his career-high of 18 rebounds. The redshirt junior went 10-for-15 from the field and added 12 points from the free throw line.
Not far behind in the offensive onslaught were Dominique Pickett and Miles Leathers, who added 30 and 20 points, respectively. Both shot efficiently from the floor as Pickett hit 10-of-16 shot attempts and Leathers connected on 7-of-9 attempts from the field.
Tusculum was able to cut the Tornados lead to only four points midway through the second half after the Tornados led by as many as 12 in the first half. Leathers answered TC’s comeback attempt with seven straight points to turn a 63-59 lead into a 70-59 advantage with 10:50 remaining in the game.
While the Pioneers cut their deficit to single digits four times over the final 10:12 of the game, BC hit five free throws over the final 1:20 to seal the victory.
Brevard’s offense surpassed the century mark for the first time this season, and shot a season-high 65.4 percent (34-for-52) from the field. BC hit 8-for-17 from beyond the arc, led by Pickett’s 5-of-9 effort from three-point range.
Wil Collins dished out a game-high six assists in 25 minutes off the bench for the Tornados. Leathers also added to the cause with five assists, which tied his season-high.
The Tornados aim to make it two in a row on Saturday afternoon as they host the Catawba College Indians in Boshamer Gymnasium at 4 p.m.
