Brevard Outlasts Anderson
BREVARD, N.C.-The Brevard College women’s basketball team (5-10, 4-7 SAC) overcame a 10-point first-half deficit early in the second half on their way to a 78-73 win over the Anderson University Trojans (9-8, 5-6 SAC) in Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
BC trailed 20-10 early in the first half before shaving Anderson’s lead to two points just before the break thanks to six unanswered points for the Tornados. Madison Lenox hit a three-pointer to cap the break, and finished with a game-high and season-high 23 points for BC.
Shelby Wolfe hit a game-tying jumper on Brevard’s first possession of the second half before Anderson’s Alexis Dillard put the Trojans back in front 43-41 on a layup at 19:25.
Lynsey Crisp responded with a go-ahead three-pointer to make it 44-43 at 18:23, and the Tornados didn’t trail for the rest of the game. Crisp finished with a season-high 19 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field and 4-for-5 from three-point range.
The Trojans tied the game one more time at 54-54 with 10:46 left in the game, but Lenox answered with a trey on BC’s next possession and the Tornados never relinquished the lead.
Wolfe scored in double figures for the fifth straight game, finishing with 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Taylor Hiatt also grabbed seven rebounds, and dished four assists. Lenox had a team-high five assists.
The Tornados will look to make it two in a row on Saturday afternoon as they visit the Wingate Bulldogs (12-3, 8-3 SAC). Tipoff from Cuddy Arena is set for 2 p.m.
