Tornados Fall to EaglesFebruary 17, 2014
BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College women’s basketball team (7-15, 6-12 SAC) fell to the Eagles of Carson-Newman (13-11, 10-8 SAC) 73-62 win in South Atlantic Conference action on Monday night in Boshamer Gymnasium.
The Eagles opened the second half with 10 straight points to take a 48-37 advantage and held the lead for the duration of the game.
The Tornados didn’t go quietly though, responding with eight unanswered points following Carson-Newman’s run to cut their deficit to three points with 15:05 to play. Katie Williams assisted a Taylor Hiatt three-point play to cap the run.
The Eagles took control for good with 10 more unanswered points following the BC run, and didn’t let their lead dip below eight points for the rest of the game.
Madison Lenox led three Tornados to double figures with 14 points, while Chelsea Turner had 13 and Williams finished with 12.
Despite trailing by as many as 11 points in the first half, Brevard scored 10 unanswered points to take a two-point lead on a Kadijah Watts layup with 32 seconds left in the opening half.
The Eagles quickly regained the lead with a three from Katie Stubblefield on the Eagles next possession, giving Carson-Newman a 38-37 lead at the break.
Brevard will have a quick turnaround as they travel on Wednesday, February 19th, to play Lincoln Memorial at Tex Turner Arena at 6 p.m.
