Balanced Attack Falls ShortFebruary 26, 2014
BREVARD, N.C.- Five Tornados finished in double figures but it wasn’t enough for Brevard College in a 92-84 loss to the Mars Hill Lions in South Atlantic Conference action from Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
The Lions (7-19, 5-16 SAC) were a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line in the game’s final 67 seconds to keep BC (4-21, 4-17 SAC) at bay.
Mars Hill scored 24 unanswered points in a run that spanned halftime to take their largest lead of the game at 20 points on a Carter Wright three-pointer at the 15:48 mark in the second half. Wright set a Mars Hill record with nine threes on his way to a career-high 37 points.
The Tornados stormed back into striking distance later in the half with a 13-3 run that cut MHU’s lead to seven with 7:28 to play. Five different Tornados scored during the run, including three points apiece from Darius Moose, Dominique Pickett and Alex Moe.
The Lions hit back-to-back buckets to push their lead to 11 and later 12 before the Tornados again made it a seven-point game on a Pickett three with 1:08 remaining. The Tornados couldn’t get any closer as MHU iced the game with free throws.
Moose tallied a team-high 22 points, while Pickett, Moe and Trevon Shaw all finished with 17. Shaw matched his season-high of nine rebounds while Moe secured eight boards.
Harrison White was the fifth Tornado to finish in double figures, netting 11 points and grabbing a season-high eight rebounds.
The Tornados will finish their season on Saturday as they host the Wingate Bulldogs (13-12, 10-11 SAC) for Senior Day, when they’ll honor redshirt senior Dominique Pickett. Tipoff from Boshamer Gymnasium is set for 4 p.m.
