BREVARD, N.C.-The Tornados knocked a season-best 16 hits on their way to a 15-5 thrashing of the Young Harris Mountain Lions at Gil Coan Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tornados blew the game open with a six-run 5th inning on their way to scoring a season-high 15 runs, headlined by three hits and five RBI’s from sophomore outfielder Matthew Proffitt.
After falling behind 3-2 in the top of the 4th, BC regained the lead with three runs in the home half of the 4th to go in front 5-3.
The Tornados then exploded for six runs on three hits and two Young Harris fielding errors in the 5th. Proffitt dealt the final blow of the inning with a bases-loaded double to center that cleared the bases and gave the Tornados an 11-3 edge after five innings.
After the Mountain Lions added a run in the 6th and 7th to cut BC’s lead to 11-5, the Tornados added another run in the 7th and three more in the 8th as they cruised to the victory.
