Tornados Edged in ExtrasMarch 19, 2014
BREVARD, N.C.-Brevard College forced extra innings with three runs in the bottom of the 9th before Pfeiffer scored two in the top of the 10th in a 7-5 win for the Falcons on Wednesday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.
The Falcons pushed two runs across in the top of the 10th against BC righty Tyler Konzen (L, 1-3) on three hits and a BC fielding error to earn the nonconference win.
Matthew Proffitt’s RBI single up the middle tied the game with one out in the 9th after a Blaine Durham RBI double to right and Chad Fisher’s RBI groundout brought BC within a run.
The Falcons got out to a 4-0 lead before the Tornados got on the board in the 6th when Proffitt scored from third on an errant throw as John Slade stole second base.
Brevard cut their deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the 8th on John Slade’s RBI single through the right side that scored Fisher.
The Falcons quickly got the run back in the top of the 9th on Anthony Allende’s RBI double to left center against BC righty Blain Hooks. Hunter Donaldson started the game on the hill for Brevard, striking out five while allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and five walks in 5.2 innings.
Next on the schedule for the Tornados is a three-game South Atlantic Conference series this weekend at Lincoln Memorial. First pitch from Hennon Field for Friday’s opener is slated for 4 p.m.
