YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.-The Young Harris Mountain Lions scored seven runs in the 8th inning to erase an early Brevard College lead on their way to a 9-3 win over the Tornados on Tuesday evening at Zell B. Miller Field.
Young Harris scored nine unanswered runs to end the game, including seven runs in the 8th inning to seal the victory. Brevard's Dustin Haithcox (L, 2-1) was charged with five runs in the 8th, recording only one out before being pulled for Bennett Hixson.
BC got off to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the 3rd on two hits and an error. Matthew Proffitt single to lead off the inning and scored on a John Slade RBI groundout. Brock Helton then singled up the middle and later scored on a dropped fly ball by Young Harris’ Spencer Thomas.
The Tornados had taken a 1-0 lead in the 2nd after Helton walked to start the inning, and scored on Brayden Morris’ fielder’s choice groundout.
The Tornados return to Gil Coan Field as they host the Anderson Trojans for a three-game series this weekend. Friday’s opener is slated for 3 p.m.
