BC Loses 7-2 Against WingateMarch 30, 2014
BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College (1-12, 0-5 SAC) men’s tennis team lost 7-2 while hosting Wingate University (10-6, 5-0 SAC) at the McCoy Tennis Complex on Sunday, March 30.
The match started with a Brevard win during the No.3 doubles, as George Finch and Nathan Sabate finished 8-5 against Filippo Pezzoli and Tyler Schofer. Other duos for the Tornados weren’t able to grab points towards the team count. Rory Northam and David Taggart came close falling short at 8-4 while the No.2 doubles was swept by the Wingate duo.
The singles round started with a point for BC after David Taggart took over the No.1 spot against Neal Towlson. The two went into extra sets to determine a winner, starting with a set win from Taggart then from Towlson, finishing with a final set win from Taggart at 6-3.
George Finch went into extra sets at No.6 singles against Josh Eardley of Wingate. Finch started down at 4-6 then won the second set 6-2, but he couldn’t finish BC with another point and lost in the extra set.
The men’s team will travel to Lincoln Memorial on April 1, as just one of three conference matches this week.
