Pfeiffer Takes Two from BCApril 1, 2014
FOREST CITY, N.C.- The Brevard College Tornados lost a pair of close games to the Pfeiffer Falcons on Tuesday evening at McNair Field, dropping the opener 4-2 before falling 8-5 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Pfeiffer 4, Brevard 2
The Falcons scored two runs in the top of the 7th to break a 2-2 tie on their way to the win in the first of the two neutral site games.
BC righty JD Chaplain (L, 1-4) limited the Falcons to a pair of runs through six innings before running into trouble in the top of the 7th. After recording the first out of the inning, Pfeiffer’s Tyler Summers bunted for a single and scored the go-ahead run on a Matt Wade double.
Dustin Haithcox entered following the RBI double and got a quick out before Kyle Hackney’s single to center gave the Falcons a 4-2 lead.
After falling behind 2-0 in the 1st inning, BC tied the game in the bottom of the 5th on a Brock Helton single through the left side. John Slade, who scored the tying on the Helton single, reached on a triple to right with one out.
Game 2: Pfeiffer 8, Brevard 5
The Falcons posted six runs in the 7th inning to turn a 5-2 BC lead into a three-run advantage heading into Brevard’s final at-bat.
Righty Hunter McBride took over for starter James Phillips, who gave up just two runs over six strong innings, to start the 7th.
Brevard's offense clicked early as a two-run single by Chad Fisher in the 1st got Brevard going, and Alex Bedenbaugh made it 3-0 in the 2nd with an RBI single to left.
The Falcons got two runs back in the 4th, but BC added a run in their half of the 4th on Eric Renegar’s squeeze bunt and another in the 6th on Matthew Proffitt’s fielder’s choice groundout.
Next on the slate for the Tornados is a three-game series with the Tusculum Pioneers this weekend at Gil Coan Field. Friday’s opener is set to begin at 3 p.m.
