Tornados Bested by Division I Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.-The Tornados struggled to find offense on Wednesday afternoon, falling 9-0 to the Division I Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs at J.H. Moss Stadium.

Brevard righty Zac Joyce (L, 2-5) made the start for the Tornados, and didn’t allow an earned run until a three-run 3rd. The Bulldogs grabbed an unearned run in the 1st after a BC fielding error prolonged the inning.

The junior kept BC in the game until a five-run 6th pushed the Bulldogs lead to 9-0. Lefty Kyle Pittman threw the final three innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits and two walks while fanning seven.

Six different pitchers completed the shutout for the Runnin’ Bulldogs, with the win going to starter Jacob Walker (W, 2-0) for tossing the first four innings. The Tornados lone hit came in the form of a Kody Spencer single to left center in the 4th inning.

The Tornados continue nonconference road action on Thursday as they visit the Pfeiffer Falcons at Joe Ferebee Field for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
