Tornados Split with Chowan in ThomasvilleApril 12, 2014
THOMASVILLE, N.C.-The Brevard College baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader with the Chowan Hawks at Finch Field on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-2 in the opener before hitting their way to an 8-4 win in the second game.
Game 1: Chowan 3, Brevard 2
John Hunter's RBI double in the 6th plated the go-ahead run as the Hawks took the opener despite an early BC lead.
Chowan’s Blake Eure hit a two-run homer in the top of the 5th to give the Hawks a 2-1 advantage.
Brevard tied the game in the home half of 5th on a Chowan fielding error before the Hawks regained the lead on the Hunter double in the 6th.
Game 2: Brevard 8, Chowan 4
The Tornados offense was hot early, scoring twice in the first frame and then adding six more runs in the 2nd to take a commanding 8-0 lead.
The Tornados slugged six hits in their six-run 2nd, and also benefited from three Chowan errors. Billy O’Hara, Eric Renegar and Chad Fisher all had RBI singles in the inning, while BC plated two runs on Chowan miscues and Hunter Donaldson added an RBI groundout.
James Phillips (W, 2-1) threw four-plus innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks before being lifted in favor Dustin Haithcox in the 5th.
Tyler Konzen threw the final two innings, issuing a walk while picking up a strikeout.
The Tornados resume action on Wednesday as they host the Erskine Flying Fleet for their 2014 Senior Day.
