SALISBURY, N.C – The Brevard College softball team swept a doubleheader from the Catawba College Indians on Friday afternoon, taking the opener 1-0 before handling Catawba 9-2 in game two.
Game 1: Brevard 1, Catawba 0
The Tornados pulled out a 1-0 victory in the opener thanks to a complete-game shutout from Jamie Hroback (W, 16-8) and an RBI single from Dallas Heaton in the 2nd inning.
Heaton singled in the top of the 2nd, scoring Kinsey Parrish and giving the Tornados an early 1-0 lead.
That was all the offense Hrobak needed, allowing just three runs while walking two in her 17th complete game this season.
Game 2: Brevard 9, Catawba 2
The Tornados offense erupted early, scoring four runs in the first inning and one more in the third. Kinny Davis delivered the blow of the 1st inning with a two-run single.
Catawba got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd inning with two runs to make it a three-run game.
The Tornados offense proved to be too much as BC busted the game wide open in the top of the 4th with four more runs.
Senior Alyssa Miller (W, 4-10) lead the way for the Tornados, tossing a complete-game, six-hit performance while allowing two earned runs and striking out three.
Miller also collected three hits on the day, doubling twice while driving in four runs for the Tornados.
The Tornados wrap up the regular season with a double header tomorrow with the Queens University Royals at Brevard College. First pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
