Brevard Finishes Day 1 at Food Lion SAC Track and Field ChampionshipApril 18, 2014
HICKORY, N.C.- The Brevard College men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in their first day of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship at Lenoir-Rhyne on April 18 at the Moretz Sports-Athletic Complex.
On the men’s side, Kayce Martin finished at 40.16 meters in the javeline throw field event for BC. The throw put him in ninth place for the conference competition while teammates Raphael Jordan finished at 36.64 meters and Shane Shelton at 30.32 meters.
Jordan also competed in the men’s long jump for Brevard. He placed in sixth place overall after jumping 6.43 meters. Rufus Jenkins also competed in the event and finished at 5.98 meters in 13th place.
The women had Savannah Cox and Mary Clement competing in javeline throwing. Cox finished in 18th place for the Tornados after throwing 21.02 meters in a preliminary then finishing at 21.46 meters in her final round to finish.
Competition will continue through tomorrow for the Tornados at the Moretz Sports-Athletic Complex for the 2014 Food Lion SAC Track and Field Championships.
