Stuart Promoted to Class-A SavannahMay 15, 2014
BREVARD, N.C.- Former Brevard College baseball standout Champ Stuart continues to ascend the ranks of professional baseball, earning a promotion to the Class-A Savannah Sand Gnats of the South Atlantic League on Wednesday.
“We’re all so excited for Champ and really proud of his career in pro ball since leaving Brevard College,” said BC head coach Matt McCay.
Stuart was the 6th round pick (176th overall) of the New York Mets in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft, making him Brevard College’s highest-ever draft pick.
The Bimini, Bahamas native spent the 2013 season with the Kingsport Mets, the organization’s Rookie League affiliate. There he led the team and finished fifth in the Appalachian League in walks, and was second on the team in stolen bases in only 43 games.
Playing in the South Atlantic League should give BC baseball fans a chance to see Stuart in action as the league features the nearby Asheville Tourists and the Greenville Drive. The Sand Gnats play the Drive in Greenville from June 19-22, and visit Asheville’s McCormick Field on July 15-17.
Savannah continues an eight-game home stand this evening with a doubleheader against the Drive beginning at 5:35 p.m. at Grayson Stadium.
