Tornados 12th in conference preseason poll

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard’s women’s soccer team was picked to finish 12th in the preseason coaches’ poll released by the South Atlantic Conference today.

The Tornados received 16 points in the poll, most closely trailing Coker and Mars Hill in the preseason standings. 2013 SAC Tournament and NCAA Southeast Regional champions Wingate was picked to win the conference, while last year’s regular season champion Lenoir-Rhyne finished second in the voting. Lincoln Memorial, Catawba, and Queens rounded out the top five in the poll.

Last season, Brevard was winless in conference play, earning a tie on the road at Carson-Newman en route to an 0-10-1 SAC mark. The Tornados opened the season with wins against Conference Carolinas foes King, Erskine, and Converse before finishing the year at 3-13-1.

One of the strongest and largest recruiting classes in program history will team with a solid core of returners to try to improve on last year’s results. The Tornados open their season on September 4 as they travel to Tennessee to take on King University. The home opener comes two days later with a 1:00 p.m. Saturday contest against Shorter.
