Men picked fourth, women sixth in preseason cross country poll

BREVARD, N.C. – The South Atlantic Conference released its annual preseason men’s and women’s cross country polls this morning, with Brevard voted into a tie for fourth on the men’s side while the women will enter the season in the No. 6 spot.

The men’s team finished fourth at last year’s conference championship, behind Anderson but ahead of Lincoln Memorial. The Trojans earned the third spot in the preseason poll, while the Railsplitters and Tornados tied for the fourth slot.

Mars Hill, which has won a record 17 consecutive SAC championships, is picked to defend their title this year, with Wingate earning the second spot in the poll.

Brevard’s women’s team finished sixth in the poll after a sixth-place finish in last year’s conference championship. Wingate, the 2013 Southeast Regional champions, was picked to defend its 2013 championship, with Queens and Mars Hill predicted to duplicate last season’s results by finishing second and third, respectively.

The Tornados open the season at the Catawba Invitational on Friday, September 5. This year’s South Atlantic Conference Championships will take place in Salisbury, North Carolina on November 8.
