Women's Soccer drops a 2-0 contest to ShorterSeptember 6, 2014
BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s soccer team dropped its home opener to Shorter University, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Brevard Soccer Field in non-conference action. The game was delayed for over an hour due to lightning and rain with just over 20 minutes remaining in the match before resuming a little after 4 p.m.
Leading scorer for the Hawks, Corrie Thomas scored in the 30th minute on a free kick attempt by Julia Raymond from the far side. Thomas redirected the ball with her head to give Shorter the 1-0 lead. Raymond secured the win with a late goal at 80:38 when she fired the ball just underneath the left post.
BC was led by Lizzie Graham who had two shots in the game, both on net and Alexis Griffis who also had two shots. Four other Tornado players recorded a shot as the team was only outshot by a 10-8 margin in the contest. They also had six shots that matched Shorter in the second stanza.
Alden Powell earned the victory for the Hawks, denying three shots in net while Jordyn Springer finished with five saves for BC in a losing effort.
BC, which drops to 0-2 on the year, returns to action on Wednesday, September 10th when they travel to Due West, South Carolina to take on Erskine at 5 p.m.
