Tornados wrap up play at Anderson University InvitationalSeptember 9, 2014
ANDERSON, S.C. – The Brevard College women’s golf team wrapped up play on Tuesday afternoon at the season-opening Anderson University Invitational, one of three tournaments the Tornados will play in the fall before the bulk of their competitions take place in the spring.
The Tornados were paced by Kelsie Rhyne, who improved by three strokes from her opening round score to fire an 88 on Tuesday. She finished in a tie for 30th place overall with Tiffany Lancaster from Spartanburg Methodist College.
ZeAijah Mooney placed 36th in the tournament, while Stephanie Thomas finished 37th after improving her first-round score by 13 strokes over the final 18 holes. Kate Keller withdrew from today’s final round, keeping the Tornados from receiving a team score.
Erskine’s Rachel Moore won the individual championship with a three-over par 147 at the two-day event. Kylie Nizolek from Queens was second overall and Anderson’s Braiden Furtick finished fifth to represent the South Atlantic Conference on the all-tournament team, which was comprised of the top five individual finishers.
Erskine won the overall event by shooting 50-over par through 36 holes, finishing seven strikes ahead of Lincoln Memorial and ten in front of Queens for second and third place. Fellow SAC teams Anderson and Mars Hill finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The Tornados will next play on September 22 and 23 as they host the Etowah Intercollegiate. Play will begin at 9:00 a.m. both days from the Etowah Golf Club.
