Dream Bowl honors Gruber as Player of the WeekSeptember 11, 2014
BREVARD, N.C. – Senior inside linebacker Michael Gruber has been named a Dream Bowl Player of the Week for his 10-tackle performance in Brevard’s season opener against Western Carolina on Saturday.
Gruber was one of six Division II student-athletes honored by the organization. The preseason first team all-conference and honorable mention All-America selection by The Football Gazette counted a tackle for loss among his game-high 10 stops on the afternoon. Gruber now has 289 total tackles in his career, just five short of tying Brevard’s all-time record currently held by Prince Simunyu.
As one of this season’s honorees, Gruber will be extended an invitation to play in the Dream Bowl, which is an annual college football exhibition contest held on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It features lineups comprised entirely of Division I Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, and Division III seniors who have completed their eligibility. The game gives the student-athletes a chance to showcase their skills in a competitive setting before scouts from the NFL and Canadian Football League.
