Shaw, Hill score wins as Tornados compete at ClemsonSeptember 14, 2014
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Brevard Tornados cycling team continued its stellar start to the 2014 campaign with a series of standout individual performances in two days of racing hosted by Clemson University this weekend.
Walker Shaw won Saturday’s downhill race in the Men’s A category, while his Brevard teammate Logan Mulally finished third in the event. Fellow Tornado Sarah Hill finished second in the Women’s A race in the downhill event.
The Tornados also performed well in the short track events. Brevard placed three cyclists among the top five finishers in the Men’s A race as Shaw, Zachary Valdez, and Cypress Gorry finished second, fourth, and fifth respectively. Hill matched Shaw by earning her second runner-up finish of the day in the Women’s A race.
In Sunday’s cross country races, Hill bested her day on Saturday by taking the win in the Women’s A race. Gorry and Dylan Johnson finished second and third for the Tornados in the A race on the men’s side.
The Tornados race again next weekend in Barbourville, Kentucky at an event hosted by Union College. Brevard will then race twice more before competing in the USA Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals in the final weekend of October in Beech Mountain, North Carolina.
