Brevard men finish second at Etowah Intercollegiate

ETOWAH, N.C. – The Brevard men’s golf team continued its strong showing in the second tournament of the season on Tuesday, finishing in second place in the Etowah Intercollegiate just five strokes off the pace set by North Greenville.

The Tornados improved by nine strokes as a team from their first-round score, but it was not enough to catch a North Greenville team that built a nine-stroke first-round advantage and held on for the victory. As a team, Brevard fired a 290 on Tuesday to tie North Greenville’s Monday score for the low round of the tournament.

Although North Greenville’s Christian Constance and Tucker McDonald finished atop the leaderboard, Brevard’s Alejandro Montanes had the lowest score of any of the event’s 48 competitors as he shot a final-round 70. He improved his first-round score by five strokes and finished in a tie for second with McDonald at one-over par.

Brevard’s Luis Vega and Oskar Lundgren were among five competitors who tied for fifth place at three-over par, while Sabastian Strehl rounded out the Tornados’ scorers with a two-day score of 150, six strokes over par.

Several Tornado golfers competed in the event as individuals as well, with Craig Stephen highlighting the group by shooting an 11-over 155.

The Tornados will have two weeks off before their next competition at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate. The event will take place in Morganton, North Carolina with the first round scheduled for Monday, October 13.
