Cross Country Competes at Upstate InvitationalOctober 4, 2014
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Brevard College cross country teams competed at the Upstate Invitational hosted by USC Upstate on Saturday morning at the Roger Millken Center, with Hannah Cook leading the women’s team.
The junior from Havelock, North Carolina finished 70th overall with a time of 19:45.14 in the 5K race. Cook’s time was 2:01.74 off the top finisher from Appalachian State, Tristin Van Ord. The Tornados finished 14th out of the 17 team field with 393 points while the top three teams hailed from Georgia Tech, North Florida, and Appalachian State, respectively.
Freshman Leah Jostes, from Winter Haven, Florida, was the next finisher for the Tornado women with a time of 20:47.15 while seniors Heidi Kaartinen and Ashly Lowe finished 35.31 seconds apart from each other with times of 21:06.32 and 21:41.63, respectively.
On the men’s side, Hassan Kiprono, a freshman from Iten, Kenya led the Tornado team finishing 70th in the individual 8K race with a time of 27:09.82. Freshman Caleb Stanley, sophomore Jack Dills, and junior Shawn Deese all finished 3:44.15 of each other with Stanley finishing with a time of 36:00.59.
Wake Forest was the top team on the men’s side in which Brevard didn’t have enough runners to qualify for a team score.
Brevard cross country teams return to action at the Falcon Classic on October 18th in Montevallo, Alabama.
