Falch powers golfers to third-place finishOctober 22, 2014
MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – Brevard’s men’s golf team improved its first round score by six strokes en route to finishing third at the Walters State Fall Classic, led by a top-five finish from Trym Falch.
Falch shot one-over par for the tournament, following up an even-par first round on Monday with a one-over 73 in Tuesday’s final round. He finished fourth overall in the tournament as just three players shot even par or better through 36 holes in the difficult conditions.
Falch’s heroics helped the Tornados to a third-place finish overall. South Atlantic Conference member Tusculum won the tournament with a two-day score of 585, with Brevard’s 608 fell just five strokes shy of host Walters State for secondplace.
The Tornados shot 301 as a team in Tuesday’s final round, a six-stroke improvement from Monday’s score and the third-lowest score of the day behind Tusculum’s 289.
Alejandro Montanes shot a 77 both days to finish 10-over par in support of Falch. Oskar Lundgren, Craig Stephen, and Luis Vega each finished 13-over for the tournament to round out the team scores. Sebastian Strehl led four Tornados that played as individuals with a score of four-over par.
Brevard will return to the course for its fifth and final tournament of the fall season on November 1 and 2 as it travels to the Hummingbird Intercollegiate, hosted by Western Carolina University at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in nearby Cashiers. The field will include several Division I teams.
