ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Brevard College women’s basketball team was picked to finish 11th in the 2014-2015 campaign in the South Atlantic Conference poll, released today by the league.
The Tornados look to build off a seven win season under head coach, Shannon Reid, who is entering her seventh season at the helm of the program. The Tornados received 33 votes in the poll, 11 points behind Mars Hill for 10th place.
Wingate, last year’s tournament champion, was named the favorites to win the league with 123 points, just nine points ahead of Newberry. Wingate finished at the top of the league last year with a record of 24-6 overall and 17-5 in conference while earning a spot in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region game against Belmont Abbey.
Newberry was picked second, after falling to eventual Tournament champion in Wingate in last year’s SAC Women’s Basketball Championship quarterfinal match up. Lenoir-Rhyne, Carson-Newman, and Lincoln Memorial round out the top five of this year’s poll.
Following two exhibition games against UNC Asheville and High Point on November 8 and 15, respectively, the Tornados begin the regular-season on the road at Newberry on Tuesday, November 22 in conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
