Rhyne leads Tornados to top five finish

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Brevard College women’s golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its competition schedule with a fifth-place finish in difficult conditions at the weather-shortened Pioneer Classic hosted by Tusculum College.

With inclement weather in northeast Tennessee on Saturday morning, the tournament was shortened to an 18-hole format. The Tornados finished the day in fifth place in the five-team tournament, 96 strokes off the pace set by the hosts on their way to the win.

Kelsie Rhyne paced the Tornados as she has all season with a 15th-place effort at 23-over par. Spartanburg Methodist’s Nikity Arjun won the tournament with a five-over 76, outpacing Tusculum’s Ciara Rattana, Mars Hill’s Emma Lundvall, and Lincoln Memorial’s Mercedes Smith by four strokes.

Kate Keller, who completed her first tournament of the fall, finished in a tie for 24th place, while ZeAijah Mooney and Stephanie Thomas were 29th and 31st, respectively.

The Tornados have now completed all three scheduled fall competitions. Brevard will next take to the course in the spring.
