Cheer and Dance team to perform at Asheville Christmas ParadeNovember 18, 2014
BREVARD, N.C. – Coming on the heels of a fall season full of entertaining crowds at football games and special events on campus, the Brevard College cheer and dance team will make its fifth consecutive performance in the Asheville Christmas Parade this Saturday.
“The Asheville parade is one of my favorite events every season,” remarked head coach Reva Jarrett. “Competing at the performance stop is the highlight of the parade. In the past, we have earned runner-up in the competition and received a money prize, and we’re striving to take first place this year.”
The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the corner of Biltmore Avenue and South Charlotte Street in downtown Asheville. The parade route proceeds up Biltmore into the heart of downtown to the performance area, which is located at the corner of Biltmore and Patton Avenues. The route then makes a left-hand turn and continues down Patton Avenue until it ends at French Broad Avenue.
The Tornados will be one of over 100 entries in the parade, several of which are fellow cheer and dance teams, and will look to excite the crowd with a rousing performance in front of thousands of onlookers. “I enjoy the Asheville parade because the crowd is so involved and everyone that participates has so much positive energy,” said junior Molly Penland. “It’s an awesome way for us to engage with a new community outside of Brevard.”
This will be the first of two parade performances for the Tornados’ cheer and dance team this fall. The team will also make an appearance in the Brevard Christmas Parade, which begins at noon on Saturday, December 6.
The parade’s grand marshal will be American Idol winner and Asheville native Caleb Johnson. Following the conclusion of the parade, Ingles Jinglefest will take place at the U.S. Cellular Center.
