Brevard Baseball vs. Cancer event set for December 3November 18, 2014
BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard baseball coach Matt McCay has announced the date of this year’s Brevard Baseball vs. Cancer event.
This year’s version of the fundraiser will take place on Wednesday, December 3, as part of Brevard basketball’s home doubleheader against Anderson. McCay has reached his goal of raising $250 to be donated to fight childhood cancer through the Vs. Cancer Foundation and will be shaving his head at halftime of the men’s game.
The issue of childhood cancer is one that hits close to home for McCay, as one of his players won a battle with cancer while he was an assistant coach on staff with the University of North Carolina. McCay and his team have shaved their heads every year in an effort to raise money and awareness to fight childhood cancer since he became Brevard’s head coach in 2011.
The Vs. Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving kids’ lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts. The donations collected by McCay and the Brevard baseball program will benefit Mission Hospital in Asheville.
In addition to monetary donations, Brevard will also be collecting donations for the Toys for Tots program to be delivered to Mission Hospital. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is sponsoring the toy drive, which will accept donations at the basketball games as well. The doubleheader with the Trojans begins with a women’s game at 6:00 p.m., with the men’s game scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m.
