Ribbon-cutting ceremony for Frank Patton Track scheduled for FridayDecember 10, 2014
BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, December 12 at 2:00 p.m. to formally open and dedicate the Frank Patton Track.
A donation from Patton, along with his wife Donna, made it possible for Brevard to renovate its on-campus track facility, which is located near the softball field and baseball’s Gil Coan Field. The $180,000 project gives Brevard a regulation eight-lane track. In a departure from the reddish hue typical of track facilities, the new Frank Patton Track is a striking royal blue that is consistent with school colors.
“I am extremely excited to see how this new track is going to help the county, our local schools, and Brevard College,” said Director of Athletics Juan Mascaro. “I’m just thrilled that this will become a place for our entire community to be engaged and am excited to publicly thank the Pattons for their generosity.”
The Pattons have been recognized for their philanthropy in the Brevard community in recent months. A project to install turf at Brevard Memorial Stadium, spearheaded by a separate large donation from the Pattons, was completed in August. The facility hosts Tornados’ football in addition to several Brevard High School sports teams.
Much like Memorial Stadium, the Frank Patton Track will be an asset to the entire Brevard community. The track will host practices and events for Transylvania County Schools, including both Brevard and Rosman High Schools.
Parking for Friday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony will be available in the gravel lot across from the track.
