Tornados have strong weekend in Hendersonville

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – The Brevard College cycling team continued the cyclocross portion of its season with a strong showing at a pair of events in nearby Hendersonville this weekend.

The Tornados were led by Walker Shaw, who finished second in a 70-man field. Allison Arensman rode to a third-place finish in a national-level field, while teammate Sarah Hill placed 20th in the event. "Today's race was fast and furious," Hill commented. "There was not a lot of recovery time, but it was fun and exciting nonetheless."

Brevard also netted a top-ten finish from Samantha Miranda in a category three event.

Arensman again led the Tornados on Sunday, finishing in fourth place in a UCI Pro event. Sarah Fonger placed in the top 15, while Spencer Lowden also finished 15th on the men's side.

"The team performed really well this weekend," said Lowden. "We look to be in great shape for nationals in Austin next month."

Brevard will not compete again until the Cyclocross Nationals, which take place in Austin, Texas January 7-11.
