Track & Field to host first event in over ten years

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Track & Field teams will be hosting its first meet in over 10 years with the BC Tornado Relays on Saturday March 14.

There will only be track events and as an invitational, all are allowed to enter as a college team or individually. Assistant track & field coach Josh Mower explains the importance of having a track in place for current and future use.

“The new track brings a lot of excitement for the team this year and is a strong recruiting tool for future student athletes, knowing they will have a place to compete for home events”, Mower explained. “We have had a facility here that hasn’t been used and now we are able to put it to good use not only by Brevard students but for the community. We feel since this was a community project, we are now giving back to them for their generosity”, said Mower. “Currently we will be using it for running events and relays but hope to get the equipment for other kind of events down the road. It is special to have a place to call home where we can get local supporters to come out and enjoy the sport.”

The fee for the Tornado Relays on Saturday is $175.00 per team or $300.00 for both that consists of eight or more members. Individual runners or teams that have less than eight participants are eligible for a $20.00 fee for unlimited participation.
