Daugherty named to preseason All-Conference First-Team, Brevard picked 12th

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Brevard Women’s tennis senior Katie Daugherty was named to the preseason All-SAC first-team while the team was picked 12th in this seasons preseason South Atlantic Conference (SAC) poll.

Daugherty, a native of Belton, Texas, returns as one of the strong leaders on this year’s squad. Last season, she went 12-5 overall, while winning 10 matches at No. 1 singles, and two at No. 2. Daugherty also won 11 matches in doubles and went 5-6 in conference play.

Wingate, who made it to last years’ NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship, was picked first with seven first-place votes in the preseason poll and had 124 points. Tusculum was 10 points behind in second while Queens and Newberry followed up in third and fourth, with 108 and 102 points, respectively.

Brevard already began its season, as they fell to UNC Asheville this past weekend to open the season. The Tornados’ next match is at home against Spartanburg Methodist at 1 p.m. on February 15. The Tornados are also hosting the SAC Championship on April 16-18.
