UNC Asheville defeats Brevard in spring openerJanuary 24, 2015
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Brevard Women’s tennis began it’s spring portion of the schedule with a 7-0 loss against Division I UNC-Asheville on Saturday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.
Senior Katie Daugherty, a Belton, Texas native, was defeated at No. 1 Singles in a 1-6, 6-4, 4-6 defeat to Erika Rivero. She was the most dominant player for the Tornados and provided the only steady match for her team of the day against a very steady Bulldogs squad.
Berlin, Germany sophomore, Jule Hermann, fell to Amryn Soldier at No. 2 and winning the first set 5-7, before falling 6-2 and 7-6 (9-2 tiebreaker) in sets two and three.
The Tornados were beat at No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 pretty handedly, only winning eight out of the combined 48 games in those matches. Freshman, Lisa Pettig and junior Nirvanna Silva won five of the eight games at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
Hermann and Daugherty picked up a 6-4 victory in a doubles match. Pettig were paired together in a doubles defeat while Silva and Camille Cameron lost the other doubles match for Brevard.
The Tornados return to action for their first home contest on February 15. They face Spartanburg Methodist as the matches start at 1 p.m.
