Tornados make impact at USC Open competition on SaturdayFebruary 7, 2015
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Brevard College track and field teams at the USC Open on Saturday afternoon at the USC Indoor Complex. The meet was against a few Division I opponents like the University of South Carolina and also a few Division II schools.
Sophomore China Davis, from Baltimore, MD. finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:09.52, ahead of June Lisa Foster, from South Atlantic Conference (SAC) opponent Coker.
Espoo, Finland native, senior Heidi Kaartinen finished third behind two University of South Carolina runners in the 800 meter run clocked in at 2:27.94. Freshman Leah Jostess, from Lakeland, Fla. and sophomore Madison Smith, from Duval, Wash. finished with times of 6:09.90 and 6:23.47, respectively in the mile run finals.
Junior Ashley Lowe and sophomore Elena Raygoza finished eighth and tenth in the 3,000 meter run. Classmate Alexis Williamson completed the preliminary round of the 55 meter dash in a time of 7.98.
Iten, Kenya native, freshman Hassan Kiprono finished third in the 3000 meter run for the men in a time of 9:22.75 while sophomore Micah Voelzow finished 10th in the men’s high jump with a height of 1.75 meters. Click here for full results.
The Tornados next compete on March 13 during their own event of the Tornado Relays for their first home event in over a decade.
