Tornados fall in season opener against Young HarrisFebruary 11, 2015
BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s tennis team fell in their season opener to No. 33 Young Harris, 9-0, on the campus of Brevard College on Wednesday afternoon. Young Harris is ranked among Division II schools.
David Taggart was defeated at No. 1 singles by Guilherme Frias 6-4, 6-4. He held it close through the earlier games and the match could have swung in his favor on a couple of close points. Nathan Sabate lost to Daniel Tiboldi at No. 3 singles 6-4, 7-5 in another close match for the Tornados.
Rory Northam battled Federico Terreni to a third set tie breaker at No. 4 singles but eventually fell 6-2, 2-6, 10-7. George Finch, Christoph Plasa, and Richie Liell fell at No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Brevard fell in all three doubles matches but Sabate and Finch were close in a close match against brothers, Sebastian and William Edin of Young Harris, before succumbing 9-7 while Taggart and Northam held close with Frias and Raul Quevedo. Taggard and Norham eventually fell 8-4 in their match while Plasa and Liell were outdueled in a match against Brecht Vangrinsven and Daniel Tiboldi.
The Tornados return to action on Sunday as both the men’s and women’s teams take on Spartanburg Methodist at home for a 1 p.m. match.
