Tornados look to improve and get first win during second full seasonFebruary 16, 2015
BREVARD, N.C. – Head coach Juan Mascaro and the Brevard College women’s lacrosse team has one goal in mind for the upcoming season: get the programs first win in its two year existence. After that, it is to continue to improve and build off of.
The Tornados look to improve from last year, after going winless in their inaugural season.
“Our outlook on the season is very positive”, said Mascaro. “The team has the right attitude to have a successful season and they have come together through some adversity. Our goal is simple, to get our first program win”.
Mascaro believes that the team has come into this season ready and better at each position. He thinks that finding the right system as a team will translate into the success on the upcoming season. His assistant coach, Kristin Rosato has also been key in the preseason for getting the team ready for the year, and according to Mascaro “has been the glue to holding this team together”.
In terms of leadership, Mascaro picked out players that were here last year, like Caitlyn Nemeth, who brings a strong offensive presence, and Ashley Mann, who also has some strong leadership skills. But he doesn’t think the team is built around individuals but rather a group.
“We aren’t a team of individuals, we’re a team”, said Mascaro. “The success of this team lies within the success of each individual. Every player is important”.
Mascaro and the women’s lacrosse team begin its season on Wednesday, February 18 at home against North Greenville University. The game is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.
