Wiedemann, Reilly named AstroTurf SAC Players of the WeekFebruary 16, 2015
ROCK HILL, S.C. –Adam Wiedemann has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Andy Reilly was named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, for the week ending on Feb. 15, as both players’ helped guide the Tornados to a 2-0 week.
The freshman midfielder began the week with a team-leading six point effort during a 10-6 win at Shorter on Tuesday, February 10. He registered two goals and four assists in that contest before scoring five goals and dishing out five helpers during an 18-5 victory over Emmanuel on Saturday, February 14.
For the week, the Brampton Ontario native had a combined 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) on 13 shots, all of which were on goal. He also averaged 3.5 ground balls a game in two starts. On the year, Wiedemann leads the team in assists, goals, and points.
Reilly, a senior net-minder from Delmar, New York, had a combined 26 saves in two games this week for a save percentage of .703 while allowing 11 goals on 64 shots. He averaged 13 saves in the two games and had a goals against average of 5.50.
Against Shorter, Reilly allowed just six goals on 30 shots while stopping 10 for his first win of the season. Against Emmanuel on Saturday, he allowed five goals while facing 34 shots. He turned away 16 shots, including seven in the fourth quarter.
The Tornados look to continue the early success on Wednesday when they host North Greenville. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
