Tornados in 10th after Newberry College Invitational first round

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Brevard College men’s golf team is in tenth place after the first round of the Newberry College Invitational, played on the famed Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

The first day of the tournament was slated to include 36 holes of play with a final round scheduled for Tuesday, but second-round play was halted due to darkness just before 6:00 p.m. The second round will resume at 8:30 a.m. with the third and final round to immediately follow.

Because play was suspended, only first round scores are official. The Tornados shot an opening-round 324, 27 strokes off the pace set by Georgia Southwestern and nine strokes behind Mount Olive for fifth place. Brevard is currently first among the five South Atlantic Conference schools competing at the tournament, holding a five-stroke advantage over next-closest SAC competitor Newberry.

Trym Falch showed the way for the Tornados, firing a five-over 77 over the first 36 holes to finish the first round in a tie for 10th. Oskar Lundgren and Chris Fry shot an 81 and 82, respectively, while Sebastian Strehl and Florian Peyssonneaux rounded out the Brevard contingent with an 84 and a 93.

Tournament play will continue from the Ocean Course Tuesday.
