Tornados win College Exhibition Trophy at Spirit SolutionsFebruary 8, 2015
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Brevard College dance team competed for the first time this season on February 8 at Spirit Solutions, hosted by Furman University, and returned with significant hardware in tow.
The Tornados were awarded the College Exhibition Trophy for their performance at the competition. Head coach Reva Jarrett and assistant coach Amanda Metcalf were thrilled with the team’s results.
“Our girls proved how hard they worked in practice. It clearly showed in their performance,” remarked Metcalf.
This year’s roster has been significantly depleted through attrition. But the remaining nine team members, who have come to be known as “The Fine Nine Survivors,” proved their resiliency by returning home with the trophy.
“This year has been a rough on for us but we have The Fine Nine Survivors and they pulled off a great performance,” boasted Jarrett. “I would not have it any other way because these girls dug deep to learn this routine over the last three weeks and when they hit the floor, they looked great and perfectly represented Brevard College for the first time showcasing our dance team.”
Although both coaches were extremely proud of the way the team performed, they identified areas that the team can improve upon. Both Jarrett and Metcalf said that the team will work hard to remain in sync in its revolving kick line, but were proud of how much hard work went into learning the routine and thought that the team members excelled by always having their competition smiles on display.
All in all, the team’s performance in Greenville is a source of pride and inspiration for its members and coaches. The dance team will continue to entertain fans at halftime of Brevard’s remaining men’s and women’s basketball games this season.
