Tornados fall in season opener to Mount OliveFebruary 21, 2015
WINGATE, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s lacrosse team opened its season with 25-3 loss to Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Wingate University.
The game was moved to the neutral site, where the Tornados (0-1) were the home team, due to playing surfaces on Brevard's home field.
Ashlea Mann led the Tornados with a goal and two assists while Caitlyn Nemeth and Nina Siu Shelby Arsenault played the first 30 minutes in net and took the loss while turning away eight shots while Kayla Henderson played the second half and had two saves.
Rian Daziel had five goals for the Trojans (5-0) while Alysha Kulka had three goals and three assists on the day. Kali Cook-Grisewood also had three tallies. Allana Bauche had allowed two goals and had one save while earning the win while Emerald Barron allowed one goal in relief effort. Six other Trojan’s had two goals while two had a goal each.
Mount Olive built a commanding 12-0 lead in the opening 13:52 of play before Mann put the Tornados on the scoreboard at the 15:39 mark of the first half on the free position shot. Sarah Fisher answered for the Trojans before Siu tallied for Brevard with 11:31 remaining in the opening half. Mann contributed with an assist on the play.
Mount Olive then scored 11 unanswered before Nemeth scored with just under five minutes remaining for Brevard’s last tally. Mann again had the assist.
Mount Olive outshot the Tornados 42-4 in the contest and had a 52-26 advantage in ground balls.
The Tornados look to rebound when they return home on Thursday to face North Greenville. The game, which was originally scheduled as the Brevard’s home opener last Wednesday, will begin at 3 p.m.
