Tornados fall to Assumption College, 6-3March 2, 2015
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Brevard College women’s tennis team dropped its first match of the spring break trip against Assumption College, 6-3, on Monday afternoon at the Chaplin Park Tennis Club. The matches were delayed until noon because of rain in the area.
Katie Daugherty defeated Aida Vila at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3 for one of the Tornados (1-3) two wins in singles play. Lisa Pettig played a very good match at No. 3 singles by downing Greyhound’s Hannah Riley 6-4, 6-7, 10-2. Anita Maryskova played a tough match against Aubrey Lovejoy at No. 6 singles before losing 9-7.
Brevard was beat at No. 2 singles, where Jule Hermman was defeated 7-5, 6-4 in a close match and then Maggie Holland downed Nirvanna Silva 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Assumption won at No. 6 singles by default.
Daugherty and Hermann picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles against Riley and Cassie Burbine. Pettig and Maryskova played a very tough match at No. 2 doubles before falling to Holland and Aida Vila, 8-6.
Brevard will have a day off on Tuesday before returning to action on Wednesday. The Tornados will face Division III Misericordia University with matches beginning at 10 a.m. Click here for results from today’s match.
