Tornados sweep to earn second straight win of season

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Brevard College men’s tennis team earned its second straight victory with a sweep of Misericordia University, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center.

The Tornados improve to 3-2 overall while handing the Cougars their second loss of the season.

Brevard only lost six games during singles play while only dropping one game in doubles. David Taggart and George Finch defeated their opponents at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Taggart won 6-0, 6-1 while Finch won 6-1, 6-2.

Nathan Sabate, Christoph Plasa, and Richie Liell swept their matches at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 singles while Rory Northam won his match at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1.
Taggart and Finch won the No. 2 doubles match 8-1 while the combinations of Sabate and Northam, and Plasa and Liell swept their matches, 8-0, each.

Head coach Ed Dickson was impressed with his team’s effort today saying that they kept their focus even against a team that they should have beaten.
“We were the better than this team and sometimes it’s hard to play your best against a lesser opponent,” explained Dickson. “We did a good job today for both teams.”
