Women's soccer signs nine for the 2015 seasonMarch 9, 2015
BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College women’s soccer head coach Shigeyoshi Shinohara is pleased to announce the signing of nine new players for the 2015 campaign. Anna Conard, Caroline David, Ashley Hughes, Brittany Naef, Hinako Omizu, Sydney Shaw, Megan Shina, Lynsy Snapp, and Elise Youmans will be joining the Tornados next fall in hopes to help the squad make a push for the conference tournament.
Conard comes to Brevard from Hendersonville, North Carolina and TC Roberson High School. She was a three year starter on defense for the varsity team. She also played for a club team and went to the cup finals with that team. She is a strong asset on the field while also strong in the classroom as an Honor Roll student. She was also in the top 10 percent of her class of over 300 students.
David joins the Tornados from Olympic High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her soccer back ground is strong as a three year member of the team along with being a three year member of the swimming team. She was named to the all-conference and all-region teams three times. She also has set some records and is second at her school in career goals, third in points, and fourth in assists. She is also an A/AB Honor Roll student throughout her high school career.
Hughes joins Brevard as a midfielder from Charlotte, North Carolina and Ardrey Kell High School. A four year member of the soccer team, Hughes helped guide her team to a conference championship title as a freshman, when she led her team in goals and assists. She is also very involved in other activities besides soccer as a member of the National and English Honor Societies along with volunteering at the local YMCA.
Naef joins Brevard from Hendersonville, North Carolina and West Henderson High School where she was a two year member of the soccer team. She was also a four year member of the cross country team, where she had a lot of success as well.
Omizu comes from Mission Hills, California and Bishop Alemany High School where she was a three year member of the soccer team as well as participating on the cross country and swimming teams. She helped guide the soccer team to a 17-1-3 record during her senior year and a league championship title.
Shaw will be joining the Tornados from Simpsonville, South Carolina where she attended Mauldin High School. She looks to continue her playing career through college athletics and excited to join Brevard.
Shina joins the Tornados from Jamestown, North Carolina where she attended Southwest Guilford High School. She served as the team captain during her junior and senior seasons and won the sportsmanship soccer award during her sophomore season.
Snapp joins Brevard from Lake Gibson High School where she was a four year starter for the varsity team. She served as team captain twice and led the team in goals during three of the seasons. Snapp was named the team Offensive Player of the Year during her junior and senior years. She also was an excellent student, receiving the Academic Achievement Award all four years.
Youmans joins the Tornados from West Hartford, Connecticut, where she attended Conard High School. She has been a member of the varsity team all four years along with starting both her junior and senior seasons. She was also named team captain during her senior year. Along with her high school play, she was also a member of the National Premier League team, which gained her quality experience as a keeper.
The Tornados will look for these newcomers along with all the returning players to compete for a South Atlantic Conference tournament berth next fall.
