Tornados finish seventh at Tusculum InvitationalMarch 9, 2015
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Brevard College men’s golf team had a strong showing over the weekend, placing seventh in a field of 18 teams at the Tusculum Invitational.
The Tornados entered the final day of competition in a tie for sixth place with Milligan at 13 over par. Brevard finished six strokes behind the Buffaloes in the final standings despite firing a final round 294, an improvement by three strokes over its Saturday score.
Declan Addison had the best showing for Brevard, finishing in a tie for 15th at four strokes over par for the tournament. Addison was competing as an individual, however, so his score did not count toward the Tornados’ team total. Luis Vega had the lowest round counting toward Brevard’s team score, firing an even-par 71 in Saturday’s first round, and tied with Oskar Lundgren for the team lead at five over par.
Trym Falch finished at eight over, while Craig Stephen and Sebastian Strehl were deadlocked one stroke behind. The Tornados played exceptionally well as a team, with only one round above 76 all weekend on the par 71 course at Link Hills Country Club.
Brevard was one of five South Atlantic Conference teams in Greeneville. Tusculum won the tournament with a 569, just one stroke over par. Lincoln Memorial finished in third place six strokes back, with Mars Hill 11 back at +12 for the tournament. Anderson finished fifth among SAC schools at 31 over par.
Young Harris’s Eli Crumley led a contingency of five golfers that finished under par with a four-under 138 for the tournament. Tusculum’s Nick Forsberg was one stroke back, with three golfers tying at one under.
Brevard will have two weeks off before its next competition, the Cliffs Intercollegiate, on March 23 and 24. The tournament will take place at Cliffs Mountain Park Golf Club in Travelers Rest, South Carolina and is hosted by North Greenville University.
